SOUTH BEND, Ind.—A Sichuan takin was born on February 26 at the Potawatomi Zoo.

The calf, whose sex is unknown, was born to mother, Mulan, and father, Krunk. It is living in the outdoor takin habitat with its parents and half-sister, Yi-Liu.

According to the Potawatomi Zoo, fewer than 20 zoos in the United States have Sichuan takin.

The birth was a part of the Potawatomi Zoo’s participation in the Sichuan takin Species Survival Plan.

The zoo announced the newborn’s birth on March 1.
