SOUTH BEND, Ind. -

A personal defense course at Kodiak Firing Range and Training Facility is striving to give women the tools they need to prevail in a conflict.

“We’ll talk about safety, we’ll talk about awareness,” said John Pemberton, manager and chief instructor at Kodiak Range.

But that’s not all. The four-hour class from 6 to 10 p.m. will go over assault prevention, empty hand tactics and more.

“We want them to come out with confidence,” said Pemberton. “We want to make sure that the people who take any of our training classes can defend themselves as well.”

Pemberton will cover all of his safety tips and empty hand tactics during the course. He says staying aware of your surroundings is vital.

“The biggest thing is being aware. You get a lot of folks that are on their cell phone when they’re going to and from like a store or something like that.”

There are still spots available for the class. The cost is $75. Tickets can be purchased on the Kodiak Range website.
