SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- What started as a parking lot block party has quickly turned into one of South Bend's most anticipated events!
The eighth annual Rebel Art Fest kicks off at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Potawatomi Park and is set to feature more than 100 artisan booths for browsing.
The fest had humble beginnings as a block party held in behind Make South Bend but has quickly grown into a massive showcase for the stranger side of the Michiana art scene.
"We just wanted to do something that was a little off the beaten path, to showcase artists that you might not see at a juried art show." said organizer and co-founder, Nat Fitzgerald.
Beyond the physical art, organizers also wanted to highlight the importance of those on the outside of "the norm" in the local music scene.
Sunday's event will feature more than a dozen artists from throughout the area performing unique styles of punk rock, prog rock, hip-hop, grunge and more.
Admission for the festival is free and parking is available at nearby Adams High School, the Potawatomi Zoo and select side streets.
