2024 is on track to be the warmest year on record in South Bend! With just a few days left in the year, 2024 is already ahead of the warmest year, back in 1921, by almost a degree. This is a big margin in annual temperature ranking. This year’s average temperature of 54.1°F is nearly 5°F above the historical average.

How we got here also tells a story. Every month in 2024 has seen above-average temperatures. Many ranked as some of the warmest months on record, including the warmest February ever recorded.
This year’s winter, spring, and fall seasons are ranked among the top five warmest on record, while summer temperatures were closer to average. In other words, the cold seasons are warming faster than summer.
This persistent warming trend aligns with predictions about the impacts of climate change, and we expect it to continue in the coming years.
