Reminder of hazardous waste drop off day for Elkhart residents

ELKHART, Ind. – Elkhart County is reminding residents that March 7 is the next chance to drop off household hazardous waste from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Collections are for Elkhart County residents only and will be accepted at the Elkhart County Correctional Facility.

The hazardous waste drop off day happens on the first Saturday of every month.

Some examples of acceptable waste are polishes, gasoline, used motor oil, glue, mineral spirits, aerosol paints, insecticide, rodent poison, household cleaners, mercury, rechargeable batteries, and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Sharps will be taken but only if stored in a puncture proof container.

Things that will not be accepted are tires, electronics, refrigerators, latex paint, and alkaline batteries.
