Police investigating shooting at University Park Mall

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – At least one shot was fired at University Park Mall Monday afternoon, according to Mishawaka Police.

The shooting was reported at 2:13 p.m.

Police were called to the area between JC Penney and Macy's on the SR 23 side of the mall after receiving a call about a shooting.

Police said there was an argument between two people and one shot was fired.

This is the second shooting at the mall in three days. A man was shot outside the food court on Saturday afternoon.

He suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to Mishawaka Police.

The suspect in Saturday's shooting fled in a white SUV. The shooter has not been located.

What can you do to keep yourself safe in a situation like this?

Derek Dieter, CEO of Dieter Security, says you shouldn’t live in fear, but remain aware of your surroundings.

“Just be cognizant of the surroundings you’re at and then look for ways that you and your family can find a safe way to get out of the area," Dieter said. “You don’t want to be 100% paranoid but you should have some of that in you to make sure that yourself, and more importantly your family, is protected when you see things that may occur.”
