RV industry bouncing back in time for big show in Elkhart

Elkhart, IN -- It all about the RVs in Elkhart this weekend at Civic Plaza downtown.

The past few years have been very difficult for the industry but it seems things are turning around.

"I've had the best year I've had in four years this year. So I'm excited it's coming along really well," Dealer David Titus with Industrial RV said Friday. "Historically RVs were the first to drop when the economy went down but we're also one of the first to come back."

There were folks of all ages on hand for the first day of the show. Some in their early 20's picking up an RV for fun, others nearing retirement age investing in a fun getaway for years to come.

"I have retired but my husband he will be a couple years yet from retiring. We have a couple of dogs, I just thought it would be nice to travel," Michelle Wantz of Goshen said while looking at RVs with her husband.

Wantz and her husband raised five kids and have no money saved up yet to buy and RV.

"Right now we are just basically trying to get ourselves out of debt with kids loans and stuff like that."

Prices vary, some start at around $13,000 and of course they go up well past $100,000.

Wantz was surprised with how far they have come over the year with stainless steel appliances, marble counter-tops, flat screen TV's and air conditioning.

"They are very, very nice. it's like living in a motel room, it's not like camping out which I like a lot."

The show runs all weekend long:

Saturday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

For those 16 + the cost is $6.00, those 15 and under are free.
