Scammers hit Elkhart residents hard

ELKHART, Ind.-- Elkhart residents could be the target of a scam.

Mayor Dick Moore announced that Elkhart Public Utilities became aware of a scam on water and sewer customers.

The scam targets those customers by claiming the government will pay for their utility bills.

The scammers say it's through an Obama stimulus package program as long as the customer provides a credit card or banking information.

Elkhart Public Utilities suggests you contact your bank and the police if you think you may have been fooled by this scam.
