Scarecrow tradition returns to Buchanan

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Buchanan has returned a 15-year-old tradition that allows local businesses and organizations to design scarecrows that benefit area charities.

The scarecrow organization is putting up 240 handmade scarecrows along Front Street in the downtown area of Buchanan that are unique to the company sponsoring each one.

These sponsorships go on to help local charities and non-profits continue to serve those in need in the Buchanan area.

“We keep a small budget to pay the rent, heat, electric, buy things we need, but most of the money goes back to the community, we contribute a lot of money to Redbud Area Ministries, we support the Lions Club, the Art Center, we give scholarships away,” a volunteer said.

Each year has a different theme for the scarecrows. The theme for the scarecrows is "Jeopardy" this year.
