Search for missing doctor halted, becomes recovery mission

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The search for the local doctor missing in the mountains of Colorado has ended. It has turned into a recovery mission.

Dr. James McGrogan disappeared while on a hike with friends on Friday, March 14 near the Eiseman Hut north of Vail, Colorado.

The group decided to pause for a break, but McGrogan decided to go ahead on his own around 10 a.m.

Searchers, including the Colorado Army National Guard, the Eagle County Sheriff's Office and multiple rescue groups, spent over 700 hours searching 18 square miles, but were unable to locate McGrogan.
