Should teachers receive gun training?

The Indiana Senate has approved a bill that would make funding available for teachers who want to receive gun training.

A State House version of the bill passed in February.

Supporters of it say the optional training would help teachers learn how to defend themselves and students if necessary.

Those opposed to the idea believe adding more guns inside a school would just make it more dangerous. Teachers were concerned they would be forced to get the training... but this bill says it would be purely voluntary.

Senate Republicans say they wish they could make the training mandatory, but they've been unable to get that legislation passed in recent years.
