Lake Effect Snow and frigid temperatures ahead
SISTER LAKES, Mich. -- Severe storms rolled through Michiana Monday evening leaving a path of destruction.
One of the hardest hit areas is in Sister Lakes were the Nation Weather Service were reporting wind speeds reaching up to 50 miles per hour. This wind is described as straight line wind which can cause a lot of damage. So for there have been no reports of a microburst which happens when rain-cooled air rushes down from the clouds inside a thunderstorm towards the ground.
The ABC 57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Team found that at the storms heaviest around 4:18p.m. there were 252 lightning strikes in a ten minute span in the northern part of Cass County.
Many households experienced some sort of damage and power outages from the storm.
