SJCPD arrests 'Most Wanted' suspect Tuesday

UPDATE: A probable cause affidavit obtained from St. Joseph Superior Court reveals on Tuesdaym law enforcement received video footage of Martell Jali Butowski entering an apartment on Kensard Court.
Butowski had five active warrants for his arrest. Police say on the video footage, Butowski is seen with a handgun and an extended magazine visible in his right pocket.
A witness told officers Butowski was still in the apartment and applied for a search warrant. Officers obtained the warrant and surrounded the apartment before calling out to Butowski.
Butowski and the apartment's resident, Chadwick Babbitt, both exited and were taken into custody.
Police say during the search, they found a Glock 19 9mm handgun with an extended magazine in plain view.
Officers then collected the gun under an amended search warrant. Butowski had several warrants out for his arrest in previous cases in which he was set to be sentenced.
In May 2023 when he was 17, he was charged with Dangerous Possession of a Firearm, a Level 5 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 6 Felony, and Possession of a Narcotic drug, a Level 6 Felony
In February 2024, he was charged with Dangerous Possession of a Firearm, a Level 5 Felony, and in August 2024, Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony.
The court released Butowski on Nov. 21, 2024, for his pending case in Illinois.He never returned to SJC court to be sentenced for the three cases.
Butowski was also charged on Jan. 17 in St. Joseph County with Pointing a Firearm at Another Person. The person was identified as a juvenile.
Butowski has no upcoming court date for his recent charge, but he has a hearing on Aug. 8 for his other cases.
ORIGINAL STORY: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, ind. -- A wanted man who was recently highlighted in the St. Joseph County Police Department's Most Wanted segment has been arrested this week, authorities say.
On Tuesday, SJCPD, in collaboration with the US Marshals Task Force and Mishawaka Police Department, located and arrested Martell Butowski at a residential complex in area of Kensard Count in Mishawka.
Butowski was wanted on multiple felony warrants related to firearm possession and narcotics offenses.
Authorities say the arrest followed several days of investigative work, including the execution of multiple search warrants.
"During the operation, officers recovered a firearm and suspected controlled substances," SJCPD said.
"A second individual, Chadwick Babbitt, was also taken into custody for allegedly assisting the suspect. Both individuals were booked into the St. Joseph County Jail."
