Small fire reported at Notre Dame dorm

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Residents of Fisher Hall were evacuated to the South Dining Hall at 5:30 a.m. Thursday because of an electrical fire in a student room, according to the University of Notre Dame.

Two rooms had smoke and water damage.

Initially, just one student was assessed for smoke inhalation. Three other students were evaluated a short time later. Two were transported to Memorial Hospital for further testing. All students were back at campus by 4:20 p.m.

Most of the residents returned to the rooms later in the morning.

The students whose rooms had water or smoke damage will be provided other arrangements.

Investigators believe the cause of the fire was a student's fan.
