UPDATE: South Bend, Benton Harbor Big Lots set to close

UPDATE: It was announced by Big Lots that another 46 stores will be closing by the end of the year, and the Benton Harbor location on Pipestone Road will be one of them. 

Statement from Benton Harbor Big Lots on social media: 

"It is with great sadness that we announce the news. We received confirmation on 10/3, that the Benton Harbor location has been added to the closing list. We begin the process on Friday 10/12/2024. It's been a great run, and we are beyond grateful for each and every one of you over the years.

To save the millions of questions, we will remain open until all product has been sold. As of now, we do not have an exact end date. This is all new to us, so we will try to share as much information as we can as we get it. Again, thank you all so much!"

The only other closures in Michigan or Indiana in the latest round of 46 closures were Saginaw, Mich., and Avon and Lafeyette, Ind. 

ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- After the once-popular retail chain Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in September, a steady stream of locations have been added to the list of closing stores recently.

It was announced in August that stores in Elkhart and Warsaw would be closing, and now it was announced today that the South Bend location at 1911 E Ireland Rd. will be holding a "Store Closing" sale.

This is part of the company's plans to close roughly 340 stores nationwide.
