South Bend Community School Corporation dropping mask mandate
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Community School Corporation’s Board of Trustees voted on Monday to change the school district’s mask mandate to a recommendation. This change will go into effect on Tuesday. Masks are no longer required, but still recommended.
“The health and safety of our students is our top priority. After consultation with local health officials and following guidance from the CDC, we feel that cautiously relaxing these mandates is appropriate,” said Brandon White, Assistant Superintendent of Academics of the South Bend Community School Corporation.
As well as becoming a recommendation in all SBCSC school buildings, wearing masks on school buses and other district transportation will only be recommended for students and staff members.
The school corporation will still require masks to be worn on school property by students and staff members with COVID-19 symptoms or who have recently had close contact to someone with COVID-19.
