SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Community School Corporation put in place a threat detection system at Adams and Washington High School’s on Monday, following several threats that circulated on the social media app Snapchat.
While not new, the threat detection system hasn’t been frequently used at school entrances, where it was implemented on Monday.
The threat detection system works similar to a metal detector, alerting administrators and police when a weapon is found.
The system has previously been used at several South Bend schools' events.
The hope is that the system can be put in place in all necessary schools in the future. Right now, the school district owns 10 detectors, which can be easily installed by security.
South Bend schools also made the decision to cancel athletics and activities after school on Monday.
