One of the casualties of the COVID-19 pandemic has been Minor League Baseball. The South Bend Cubs have been hopeful there would be an abbreviated season, but hope is fading.
From the beginning, Minor League Baseball was waiting on Major League Baseball to make a decision, but talks have stalled.
South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart says they have been hopeful there would be games at Four Winds Field this season.
Hart says he has always been an optimist, but he is also a realist about the likelihood of a return to baseball this season.
"I have gotten to the point now, I’ve always been an optimist, but at this point I'm also a realist. I lose hope each and every day, I just don’t think that we’re going to have a minor league season. I hope I am wrong, and we haven’t heard any official announcement at this point. Still Major League Baseball we said even way back when in March I mean they got to figure out their thing first and foremost before they can even start to talk about the Minor League," Hart said.
The season hasn’t officially been cancelled, so there is a sliver of hope.
