SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend and Dismas House of Indiana, a local non-profit, announced they've been awarded a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Division of Mental Health and Addiction, through the state's opioid settlement funds.

The funds will be used to support the acquisition of a second residential property for Dismas House.

Officials aim to expand access to housing and recovery support services in the community.

Indiana will match South Bend's funding for this project from the city's opioid fund distribution.

Up to $195,700 of state-controlled opioid funds will be utilized with the total project investment estimated at nearly $400,000.

“This award allows us to double the impact of our opioid settlement dollars and create direct, local progress by expanding access to stable recovery housing in South Bend,” said Mayor James Mueller. “Our partnership with Dismas House reflects our commitment to supporting residents with the resources, dignity and community they need to build healthy, successful futures.”

Dismas House serves individuals in transition from incarceration and those pursuing recovery.

The grant period begins July 1.
