SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Members of the local 362 Union claim that the Board of Public Works has been docking pay from on-duty firefighters who have been exposed to COVID-19, according to officials.
Union representatives said during a Board of Public Safety meeting that if firefighters didn't have enough sick days to last through COVID-19 quarantine, then their sick day balances would go into the negatives, and money would be taken out of their paychecks for missing time.
The board approved a motion to restore sick pay after the union verified that the decrease in pay was a violation of their contracts.
