South Bend Hacienda closed for possible health code violations

For the second time in a week, a popular restaurant in South Bend has closed.

Only days after the Steak ‘n Shake on Ireland Road learned it will remained closed for at least nine days, now Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, only yards away, is also closed.

Already dealing with the billboard backlash, news of the restaurant closing is spreading quickly.

On Tuesday, one Hacienda employee sent ABC 57 News a message saying they are closed for failing health code violations.

On Wednesday, the St. Joseph County Health Department confirmed to us  they cannot comment on the case until after a scheduled hearing, which will take place on Monday morning at 10am.

Jeff Leslie with Hacienda returned our phone call with this statement:

“Hacienda has always taken the safety of our guests seriously. We have a long and close relationship with the St. Joseph County Health Department to ensure high standards. We are currently re-certifying … and addressing all the issues in our latest inspection.”

The sign on the restaurant’s doors Wednesday informed customers they are closed due to a maintenance issue.

If Hacienda is closed due to health code violations, the restaurant will be closed until at least Monday and will most likely be issued a fine and six-month probation period.
