SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Department of Venues, Parks, and Arts is bringing back an increasingly popular event for its third year this Saturday at Boehm Park.
Ray Comer, the “founding father” of pickleball in Michiana, will be honored on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Boehm Park Ray Comer courts.
Organizers say pickleball instruction by Michiana Pickleball Club instructors starts at 10 a.m., free open play for all skill levels is from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., and Pickleball by the Numbers Round Robin play is from 12 - 3 p.m. for a $5 entry fee.
"Whether you’re a seasoned pickleball enthusiast, a newcomer, or just curious to learn more, come join us for a day filled with camaraderie and excitement," organizers said.
"Grab your paddle, bring your friends, and let’s celebrate Ray’s legacy together! This is a free event open to the public."
City officials ask that participants register online ahead of the free event.
