South Bend International begins non-stop flights to Newark

The South Bend International Airport is one step closer to competing with bigger airports in the area.

The first direct flight from South Bend to Newark took off Monday morning at 6 a.m.

The ribbon cutting and press conference took place before the sun was up at 5:30 a.m. and the flight took off at about 6:15 a.m.

Passengers and community leaders were very excited about the possibilities this new flight service brings to our community because having this Newark route in the South Bend market is huge from both a business and leisure perspective.

The more people who fly out of the South Bend International Airport the more likely the airport will get additional flights to more locations. 

This direct flight to Newark is not only great for business, it's also great for international connections.
