South Bend man arrested after allegedly killing, torturing cats

St. Joseph County Jail

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A South Bend man is facing multiple charges of animal torture after police say they discovered multiple dead cats in his home.

This happened last Tuesday, March 31st. Police say they were conducting a wellness call to an apartment on the 4200 block of Irish Hills Drive. When they arrived, officers were met at the door by Tyler Coday. Coday then told offers that he was hearing things and doing things he "was not proud of." County officials say he then told officers that "some cats were hurt." He reportedly told officers that cats were in the trash can and were dead.

When officers investigated, they found two gray kittens dead in the trash can. Coday reportedly told officers that he had gruesomely killed the kittens by either choking or beating them. Police say they then found three cats and two rats still living in the apartment. After that discovery, they contacted Coday's roommate, who told officers Coday had killed two other cats about a month earlier.

Coday's hearing is set for April 23.
