South Bend man sentenced to 2 years in prison for illegal possession of a machine gun

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A South Bend man will spend the next two years in prison for illegally possessing a machine gun.

20-year-old Jakari Lawson's sentence also includes one year of supervised release. 

According to the Department of Justice, South Bend police pulled Lawson over and found two guns - one on his lap and one next to his right leg. The gun on his lap was made to be fully automatic and was loaded with an extended magazine with 19 rounds.

Lawson had pled guilty to the charge against him.
