South Bend Police Department rallies to support officer diagnosed with cancer

Officer Travis Kukla

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- One of South Bend’s police officers is facing a serious health battle, and the department is asking the community to help.

Earlier this summer, 32-year-old Officer Travis Kukla, who has served with the department since 2015, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Kukla has begun treatment and is focusing on his recovery.

To help offset expenses for Kukla, his wife and their 1-year-old daughter, the South Bend Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 36 and the South Bend Police Department Honor Guard have created a “Kukla Strong” shirt, bracelet, and pin. Lime green is the awareness color for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

All proceeds from the sale of the items will go directly to the Kukla family. Orders can be placed online.
