SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Parents had the chance to get their kids tested for high levels of lead in South Bend on Friday.
The city offered free lead testing at the County City Building.
This was part of an effort to test all kids in the city after high levels of lead were found in many older homes in the area.
The city also hosted free testing at Muessel Elementary school Thursday night.
“Last night was a great demonstration of the power of partnering with the school and other entities,” said Mark Fox, MD of St. Joseph County. “That was nice because there was a defined population that we're trying to reach.”
The city will hold more free testing at other elementary schools in the coming weeks and months.
