BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – Spectrum Health Lakeland is currently seeing high wait times due to high patient volume within all three emergency rooms.

With high wait times and patient volume, Spectrum Health Lakeland reminds patients that care in emergency rooms are prioritized by the severity of the condition.

They recommend going to the ER if you experiencing the following illnesses or injuries:

  • Persistent chest pain or pressure
  • Facial lacerations
  • Head injuries or broken bones
  • Major burns
  • Numbness or paralysis of face, arm or leg
  • Poisoning or suspected overdose
  • Seizure or loss of consciousness
  • Severe reaction to insect bites or stings, medication or food
  • Severe shortness of break or inability to breathe
  • Sudden slurred speech, visual changes or weakness
  • Uncontrollable bleeding.

For minor conditions or illnesses, health officials encourage patients to contact their primary care provider or visit a walk-in clinic.
