Spring cleaning for medicine cabinets

NILES, Mich. -- The Berrien County Health Department and local law enforcement got in on a little spring cleaning, Saturday.

The Health Department offered five locations where people could drop off their un-used or expired medicine.

Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem across the nation.

And locally they're just happy to give people a safe place to get rid of the drugs.

"If there is anything that we can do to help students and youth to not abuse prescription drugs, then its a win-win situation for everybody," says Kerri Teachout, a Substance Abuse Prevention Supervisor.

The Health Department says its goal was to pick up 350 pounds of medication in the collection drive.
