Severe weather moved through Michiana Wednesday, bringing torrential rain and thunderstorms during the evening commute.
Locations south of US 30 even saw some small hail, a relatively rare occurrence, especially in March. Hail is more typically a late spring or early summer event, and historically has missed counties like Starke and Marshall.
While the size of the hailstones was small, the amount of hail was enough to cover the grass in some spots!
The cold temperatures aloft and localized strong updrafts contributed to the hail Wednesday.
