St Joseph County Prosecuter\'s Office ST JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.-- St Joseph County man, Cory Bentley, was arrested on Tuesday after an extensive pursuit with police.
According to reports, officers attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle after a routine run of the car's license plate revealed that the registered owner, a woman named Samya Esper, did not have a driver's license.
Officers could see that the driver of the car that evaded the traffic stop was a woman.
The pursuit was terminated.
Located again later on, officers managed to stop the vehicle in the area of Ironwood and Cedar; this time, the driver was identified as Cory Bentley, with Samya Esper in the passenger seat.
Officers had been informed of a firearm, a Glock 19, that had been thrown out of the vehicle during the pursuit.
Examination of the firearm, a Glock 19, showed that it had a switch installed making it fully automatic.
The firearm was tested and confirmed it could fire automatically.
Bentley and Esper admitted to switching who the driver was after evading the initial traffic stop attempt.
Bentley is officially charged with:
- Possession of a Machine Gun (F5)
- Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun-prior felony conviction within the last 15 years (F5)
- Resisting Law Enforcement (F6)
- Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor)
