Starke County approves new moratoriums on solar projects, battery energy storage systems

Starke County Courthouse

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Starke County Commissioners unanimously approved two resolutions on Tuesday morning.

The first resolution is a moratorium on solar projects through July 25.

The second resolution is a moratorium on battery energy storage systems through July 25.

The county currently has moratoriums on both of those, but the moratoriums were going to expire Wednesday.

The plan commission approved these moratoriums last week.

A representative from the plan commission says they've been actively hashing out language for future solar projects but still need more time and expect to have everything finalized in May.

In May, the county is expected to lift the moratorium, since it was created in the first place to allow Starke County to add language to local zoning ordinances that does not exist.
