SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A strange smell hit many parts of Saint Joseph County on Tuesday evening. Many took to Facebook to try to find the source of the weird odor, but no answer has been made clear to the public on what caused this smell.
Robyn Ball says “ it was a stinky smell almost like on a farm but not quite that farm smell.”
Her son Collin stated that “ it smelled like horse manure.”
Not everyone smelled this odor as it dissipated quickly. If you were inside or outside of the stretch of smell, you might have missed it.
Chuck Ball, Granger Resident: “Well since we live in Granger we didn't smell anything weird.”
ABC 57 reached out to many outlets to try to find answers, but none of the sources received any complaints about the smell. We reached out to the Health Department, Emergency Management, The National Weather Service and Nipsco.
Nipsco reported that the smell may have been due to the gas leak earlier in the day, but we did not get a definitive answer to the cause.
