Survey created to gauge interest in bikes being allowed on South Shore

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -

The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission has created a survey to find out whether residents are interested in the possibility of allowing bikes onto South Shore trains. The commission posted this press release to its website:

Bikes on Trains Survey Ready

A survey designed to gauge community interest in allowing bicycles on the South Shore trains is now available by clicking on the link below.  The survey is designed to provide information from the public on the level of interest in being able to bring bikes on the trains.   The survey is anonymous and responses to the survey questions will be used by the NIRPC Bikes on Trains Advisory Committee for the sole purpose of the study.  It will be available from February 6, 2015 through February 20, 2015.

The survey is one step in a study underway to determine the feasibility of providing the accommodations necessary to support boarding and securing bikes.  Sponsored by a partnership of public, private and not-for- profit entities, the study is being funded with a grant from the Federal Transit Administration.  The local match for the grant was supplied by the partnership of Arcelor Mittal, NICTD, National Parks Conservation Association, the RDA, Greenways Foundation, La Porte and Porter County Governments, and NIPSCO."
