Suspect runs into lake during police chase in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - South Bend Police arrested a man on resisting law enforcement and weapons charges after a chase that ended in the waters of Pinhook Lake on Saturday.

Police arrested 28-year-old Charlie Easton of South Bend after the incident.

The chase began when police responded to the sound of gunshots near Portage and Vassar avenues.

Police started chasing Easton in his vehicle after he ran a red light and ignored orders to pull over, reports said.

The chase continued until Easton got out of the vehicle and ran into Pinhook Lake.

He got out of the water following a brief stand-off and was arrested after a short struggle.

Police recovered a handgun with a switch device along Easton's path to the water.
