ELKHART, Ind.-- A SWAT situation in Elkhart ended with the suspect in custody Saturday afternoon.
According to the Elkhart Police Department (EPD), officers were called to the 800 block of E. Jackson Blvd. at approximately 10:44 a.m. for reports that a person allegedly fired a crossbow from inside a residence. Police eventually obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, who refused to exit the residence, so EPD deployed its SWAT team.
ABC57 crews arrived to find a man sitting on a roof, who appeared to be in distress, while officers on the ground tried to coax him down. Those officers leaned a ladder against the residence, until finally the man voluntarily climbed down, where he was immediately pinned to the ground.
The suspect was taken into custody at about 3:20 p.m. by officers and transported from the scene on a stretcher via ambulance.
EPD confirmed there is no further danger to the public.
