FLORIDA.-An endurance swimmer called it quits on her 3rd attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida, without a shark cage, just hours after receiving medical attention, for unknown reasons.
Sixty-two-year-old, Diana Nyad decided to end her swim after she was stung by a Portuguese man-of-war which is like a jellyfish. Nyad attempted the swim last month, but was sidelined by an asthma attack, and shoulder pain. The former world champion swimmer got about two-thirds of the way. That's about 67 nautical miles before she was forced to stop.
Nyad made her first attempt at the 103 mile swim, in 1978.
