Teen killed in car crash on the way to school
DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- Friends are remembering Rebecca Walker, a 15-year-old Dowagiac High School student killed in a car accident on her way to school Wednesday morning.
16-year-old Nathan Walker was driving and his sister was in the passenger seat.
Nathan lost control of his car on the snowy roads and in a split second their lives changed forever.
“Rebecca was one of the best people I’ve ever met," said Jordan McMillan
McMillan says she lost her best friend.
The accident happened on M-51 near Commercial Street around 7 a.m.
The slippery roads caused Nathan to lose control, crossing the center line, and that's when they were hit by another vehicle.
Nathan was rushed to the hospital.
But Rebecca died from her injuries.
“I’ll miss most just having her there. Being able to talk to her about anything. If I was ever having a bad day she could just come and make a joke and make me feel better instantly,” said McMillan.
Rebecca was a sophomore at Union High School.
Friends said she wanted to become a nurse, that she loved music and sang in her church and school choirs.
“She always wanted to put a smile on other people’s faces wanting them to feel good about themselves,” said McMillan
McMillansaid she will miss spending time with her friend, taking silly photos, going to football games, and listening to their favorite group—One Direction.
“She was one of those special people you come across and that you don’t find often," said McMillan.
ABC57 was told by the family’s pastor that Nathan will be okay. He suffered a cracked pelvis and broken finger.
