Thanksgiving sales take big bite out of Black Friday

New numbers out Sunday show Thanksgiving day shopping took a big bite out of Black Friday.

Consumers spent just over $11 billion Friday but that's down almost 2 percent from last year. Many found that "Small Business Saturday" was the best way to avoid the chaos at the mall and help support local mom and pop shops.

Some of those small business owners claim customers prefer the more intimate setting to the door buster deals at the bigger stores.

"They know that what the small business makes goes back to the community faster than say a big box store," said Anna Avant, small business owner.

On-line sales rose more than 17 percent on Thanksgiving day and more than 20 percent on Black Friday.
