ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. --The Elkhart County Park Board has announced that it has adopted its new five-year master plan.
It's the first step in making a number of capital, maintenance, and creative improvements to the county's eleven parks.
With the help of public feedback, these projects aim to enhance safety at the parks, develop and expand waterway access, and use sustainable design and green practices.
A main priority for the parks department is to acquire land adjacent to existing parks to expand their size and fit the growing population of Elkhart County.
Ronda DeCaire, Elkhart County Parks Director, says each year of projects can cost anywhere from $2,000,000 to $5,000,000, but the board is hopeful Indiana DNR will give their stamp of approval on the plan, so that the Parks Department can apply for grant funding to help cover costs.
