NOW: The week starts sunny, but thunderstorms are on the way

ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Forecast

Sunday, February 25, 2024

As the snow continues to melt, our lows will fall to just above freezing tonight with partly cloudy skies developing from the west. Michiana breaks into the low 60s on Monday as predominantly southerly winds usher in warmer and moister air. Mostly sunny skies during the day transition to low impact light rain showers developing late Monday night that last until the Tuesday morning commute. Highs will climb to near 70 by the middle of the day with a break in the clouds. By the evening, the low-pressure center and associated cold front will be to our west in north-central IL and southern WI as thunderstorms are anticipated to begin firing up around this time.

At this point, the risk for strong to severe storms in our area is still present, but the types of impacts tied to these storms are unknown. The evening round of thunderstorms and their severity will be increasingly dependent on the first shortwave of rain showers and cloud cover earlier in the day. If the rain and cloud cover linger into Tuesday afternoon, the severe risk diminishes. Regardless, expect unpleasant weather for most of Tuesday. AS the cold front swings through Tuesday night, temperatures drop well into the mid 30s as our precipitation changes from rain to snow Wednesday morning. With winds anticipated to change direction and flow from the northwest, lake-enhanced snow lasting into Wednesday afternoon can't be ruled out either. Keep following ABC57 for more updates.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Low 33.

Monday: Mostly sunny. High 61.

Tuesday: AM showers/PM thunderstorms. Some storms may be strong to severe. High 69.

Wednesday: AM rain/snow and wind. High 46.
