Cloudy, breezy Wednesday morning; improvements this afternoon
ELKHART, Ind. – Students from Jimtown Junior High School had a chance to learn about an industry that is creating resurgence in their county and all over the nation Wednesday.
Thor Industries took a field trip to Jimtown’s campus to allow students to tour three different RVs, all a part of the LEAP program.
LEAP stands for Learn, Engage, Achieve, and Perform.
Thor has traveled to more than a dozen area schools to teach fifth graders to high schoolers. They have spread the message to more than 1,000 students in May alone.
According to Thor, the month of May focused on eighth graders and elaborating on how the production line works.
Thor utilized Legos to teach the eager learners.
"This really gives them the opportunity to go inside the RV. They've done the Lego build, for instance they're building a slide-out. Now, they actually get to see the actual slide-out in a real RV and how it works, how it was designed, how someone put it together." Rick Schutt, Thor director of Community Engagement said.
Thor told ABC 57 that the goal is to get kids excited about possible careers in the RV industry.
