Traffic stop leads to foot pursuit and drug-related arrests in Vigo County
VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana State Police reported that on Friday around 11:50 p.m. a trooper observed a vehicle with a broken tail light and back windshield, which prompted the trooper to initiate a traffic stop.
The trooper proceeded to speak to the driver and passenger in the vehicle and immediately detected suspicious activity, stated the report.
Upon asking for identification, the driver was identified as 22-year-old Cameron J. Jen of Terre Haute, and the passenger was identified as 18-year-old Damien W. Swinson of Terre Haute, said the department.
The trooper required assistance and, on their arrival, authorities located a handgun under the passenger side seat, stated the report.
Troopers said they attempted to place the subjects into handcuffs for their safety, this is when Jen attempted to evade officers and ran.
While running from officers, Jen was seen placing an item into a water drain, said the report.
Officials stated that a further search of the vehicle discovered another handgun under the driver’s seat, as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Officials reported upon finding the bag, they discovered legend drugs with its contents.
The department concluded the report finding that neither occupant had a valid permit to carry and were both taken into custody and arrested on the following preliminary charges:
- Cameron J. Jent was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of legend drugs, maintaining a common nuisance, carrying a handgun without a permit, possession of controlled substance, resisting law enforcement, and possession of paraphernalia.
- Damien W. Swinson Jr. was arrested on preliminary charges of maintaining a common nuisance, carrying a handgun without a permit, possession of a controlled substance.
