ABC 57

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend Department of Public Works will start work on Jackson and Locust Roads on Friday, weather permitting.

Officials say beginning Friday, Jackson Road between York Road and Ironwood Drive will be closed through May 4 as NIPSCO works on its gas main.

Starting May 4, Jackson Road will reopen daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with flaggers directing single-lane traffic.

City officials say this schedule will continue through the duration of the work. Jackson Road will fully close again on Friday nights to Monday mornings before returning to weekday schedule.

The detour will be to Ireland Road via Miami Road and Ironwood Drive.

NIPSCO's work is expected to be completed by May 22, weather permitting.

City officials say on May 4, a section of Locust Road between Prairie Avenue to Ireland Road will close for sewer and water connection work.

This detour route will be Gertrude Street/Linden Road via Ewing Avenue and Ireland Road.

Locust Road is expected to reopen May 8, weather permitting.
