Two arrested after allegedly stealing over $500k of product from Zimmer Biomet, selling online

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- A 44-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman are in jail facing theft and drug charges after drug enforcement teams intercepted a package containing meth.

Paul Stellwag II is charged with Theft of property valued > $50k, a Level 5 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 3 Felony, and Dealing in Methamphetamine, a Level 2 Felony.

Heather Williams is charged with Theft of property valued > $50k, a Level 5 Felony, and Possession of Marijuana, a Misdemeanor.

Williams waived her initial hearing and now has a pre-trial hearing on July 20.

Stellwag already had his initial hearing and now has a status conference on July 27.

According to the probable cause affidavit in this case, On Feb. 9, the Narcotic Enforcement Task Force 43 assisted the Whitley County Drug Task Force and conducted surveillance on Stellwag's residence in Pierceton.

Officers witnessed UPS deliver a package to Stellwag's porch, which he then retrieved.

A confidential informant told investigators Stellwag had talked about stealing and reselling products from Zimmer Biomet. Stellwag also told the informant that Williams, Distribution Handler at Zimmer Biomet, provided him with the product from Zimmer Biomet.

On Feb. 9, the Whitley County Drug Task Force conducted a controlled purchase of methamphetamine from Stellwag and he was arrested.

Police then searched Stellwag's car where they located 20 packages containing Dragon Tongue Suture Passer distributed by Zimmer Biomet.

In an interview with investigators, Stellwag admitted he received Zimmer Biomet property from Williams by the pallets and then resells it.

NET43 executed a search warrant at Stellwag's home and located new Zimmer Biomet property in its original packaging that ranged from surgical devices to implants to power equipment used in surgeries. Authorities noted a shipping label with Williams' name and address on a box that contained Zimmer Biomet's property.

At Stellwag home, authorities also found two plastic bags containing a white crystal that later tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed around 177.88 grams.

On Feb. 10, Zimmer Biomet representatives identified the stolen property and verified the serial numbers were currently listed in their inventory. Police say they located over 1,000 stolen products valued at over $500,000. Stellwag previously worked for Zimmer Biomet and was terminated on Jan. 30, 2025.

Also on Feb. 10, NET43 confirmed Williams' employment and position. When a detective asked to speak with Williams, she asked if it was related to Stellwag's arrest.

Williams was then taken to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office, advised of her Miranda Rights, and subsequently requested an attorney.

NET43 officers executed a search warrant on Williams' home in Warsaw on Feb. 10. Investigators also obtained Williams' cellphone.

Inside Williams' home, officers located a Zimmer box that contained a cardboard box label with a receiving label to Zimmer, Inc., 1777 W. Center Street, Warsaw, Indiana, three opened THC gummies, and a cardboard box with a label "Reciprocating Saw Blade."

On Feb. 16, Stellwag was read his Miranda Rights and agreed to speak with detectives.

Stellwag stated he would send Williams a part number, she would the item from Zimmer Biomet, and he would sell the item on Ebay and through WhatsApp. Stellwag said he and Williams split the money 50/50 and it began in April 2025.

Upon executing the search warrant for Williams' phone, investigators found the following text message thread:

  • Text thread with items numbers Stellwag needed
  • Williams' communication when she obtained the items
  • Information about an individual that came from Tijuana, picked up the stolen Zimmer Biomet items, and then transported the items back to Tijuana.
  • 37 different notes with Zimmer Biomet item numbers and a code they understood utilizing emojis. The emoji code key saved in a shared note.
