Two arrested following shots fired call in South Bend Wednesday afternoon
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Two people were arrested following a shots fired call along Butternut Road on Wednesday, Indiana State Police reported.
At 12 p.m., a state trooper responded to a St. Joseph County Dispatch call reporting shots fired at a residence in the 56000 block of Butternut Road.
According to the report, a man got out of a car and fired several shots from a handgun while the car was parked in the driveway.
The trooper found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle near Mayflower and Filmore Roads, according to reports.
That vehicle, a maroon Toyota, had a man and woman inside.
Officers made a traffic stop on the Toyota and the man and woman were detained.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found the following, according to reports:
- A loaded Hi-Point .380 handgun
- A loaded .380 magazine
- A loaded 9mm magazine
- A plastic bag containing 11 9mm rounds
- A single loose 9mm round on the front passenger seat
- A pill bottle containing several pills identified as a controlled substance
Officers also discovered that a toddler was in the back seat of the vehicle.
At the residence along Butternut Road, officers found additional shell casings in the driveway. The home did not appear to have been hit by gunfire and the homeowner was not injured.
James Gary, 40, of South Bend, was arrested on the following charges:
- Felon in possession of a handgun
- Criminal recklessness with a handgun
- Felony intimidation
- Possession of a handgun without a permit
Aimee Wilson-Nixa, 26, of South Bend, was arrested on the following charges:
- Possession of a legend drug
- Possession of a schedule II and IV controlled substance
- Possession of a handgun without a permit
Gary and Wilson-Nixa were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
The toddler was released to a relative.
