Two arrested in carjacking in Mishawaka
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Two men were arrested in connection with a carjacking in Mishawaka on Monday night, according to the St. Joseph County Police Department.
On the south side of Mishawaka late Monday night, a red sedan was allegedly stolen at gunpoint from its owner.
A "be on look out" alert was issued to area law enforcement in response to the incident.
Approximately two hours later, a county police officer saw a vehicle matching the stolen vehicle's description leave the parking lot of a hotel on U.S. 933 N, just north of Cleveland Road.
As the officer turned around to check the sedan's license plate, the sedan allegedly sped off, traveling south on U.S. 933 N toward South Bend.
A short time later, while trying to make a high-speed turn in the area of Northshore and Michigan Street, the sedan crashed into a utility pole.
One person was detained a short distance from the vehicle while the other ran from the area, police said.
The second person was detained by a Mishawaka Police Department K-9 office a short time later.
Delvon Garcia, 24, and Ta'vion Rockett, 19, both of South Bend, were booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on the charges of robbery while armed with deadly weapon, auto theft, and resisting law enforcement with vehicle causing substantial risk of injury.
