Two teens arrested in connection with carjacking, vehicle pursuit
Damarion Hipskind, Rodney Turner Jr. SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department reports two teenage suspects have been arrested and charged following an alleged carjacking and vehicle pursuit.
Police say they responded to the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Niles Avenue regarding a vehicle theft around 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 5.
Officers arrived and spoke with the victim, who stated he met two men and offered them a ride as an act of kindness due to the cold weather.
The victim said when he pulled over to let the men out of the car, one of them pull out a handgun and ordered him to get out while threatening to shoot him.
Authorities say a short time later, officers found the victim's vehicle being driven near Lincolnway West and Wilbur, at which point a traffic stop was attempted.
The report states the vehicle failed to stop, leading to a pursuit which ended in the 1500 block of S. Taylor Street.
The occupants, identified as 18-year-olds Rodney Turner Jr. and Damarion Hipskind, were then apprehended.
Both were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Turner with Robbery, a Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Felony, Auto Theft, a Felony, two counts of Intimidation both Felonies, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Misdemeanor, Theft, a Misdemeanor, and Criminal Mischief, a Misdemeanor.
Hipskind has been charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, a Misdemeanor.
