Two boys fall through ice

CARTERVILLE, Ill. -- It was a very scary scene Sunday in Carterville, Illinois, just west of Evansville where two boys fell through the ice on a pond.

One of the boys died, the other is still recovering in the hospital.

A neighbor heard their cries for help and immediately went to their rescue.

He says that is when he went to his garage and got an extension cord but by the time he came back he could only see one of them.

"I saw the two boys in the water and I ran out the back door and asked if they needed help and they said yes. By the time I got to the edge he told me. 'My buddy went under,'" said Jack Brown.

The pond has been iced over for several weeks but it is nearly 40 feet deep in the middle where the boys fell through.
