Two injured in crash on M51 at Pokagon Street

Dowagiac Police responded to a vehicle crash at M51 and Pokagon Street in Dowagiac Monday morning.

The crash happened around 9:51 a.m. just as police were clearing the scene of a minor accident with no injuries in the area.

Police said a small pickup driven by a 17-year-old Dowagiac resident was traveling north on M51 when he lost control of his vehicle.

The truck spun and crossed into oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes.

The truck struck a vehicle driven by a 90-year-old resident of Dowagiac. The driver and 87-year-old passenger were uninjured.

The 17-year-old driver of the truck and his passenger, a 15-year-old, were injured and were taken by Pride Care EMS to separate hospitals.

Police said weather, including ice on the road, appears to be a factor in the accident.
